Cryptocurrency is supposed to be engendering a burst of « innovation », not to mention « disruption ». But many of the ideas are still only partly baked.
Let’s look at two recent ideas that do not involve gambling or extralegal commerce or overthrowing civilization as we know it.
(I assume the name is a lame play on “BitCoin”.)
Part conceptual art, part geeky PR, and part pragmatic business plan: a new cryptocurrency used to sell shares in artworks. “BitchCoin is a digital currency backed by the photography of Sarah Meyohas at a fixed exchange rate of 1 BitchCoin to 25 square inches of photographic print.”
Being a visual artist, she also makes the “mining” concrete and visible, via a web cam. (It would have been cooler to have something like a bicycle powered mining rig.)
